There are a variety of commercial CT contrast agents that are used in small animal studies for liver and kidney contrast, respectively. Most soft tissue anatomy has limited innate CT contrast. However, some studies of soft tissue anatomy can be done using CT Exitron™ nano agents and Visipaque™. Read All |

Imaging techniques can be combined to leverage the strengths of multiple modalities. Most frequently, a functional imaging modality is performed in sequence with an anatomical modality to obtain an anatomical reference. Recently, there has been some movement toward the development of more integrated imaging systems (Lu et al., 2014). There are now commercially available systems that integrate optical, PET, SPECT, CT, and/or MRI imaging in various combinations. Read all |

Preclinical optical imaging has been used in general pathology studies, development of clinically relevant disease models, testing of novel optical probes, and pharmacokinetic evaluation of therapeutics, including those designed to cross the blood brain barrier. Optical imaging has several technical advantages over other imaging modalities. Read More |

The Zika virus is currently of particular concern, given that it has been associated with a significantly increased incidence of fetal microcephaly in Brazil since its introduction there in 2015. Thus some governments are announcing intentions to increase funding for research into the development of vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics for emerging virus. Read More |
